Meet our Instructors

Tashi Dave Williams - Chief Instructor

Tashi Dave Williams, Chief Instructor and founder of the Budokan Ju-Jitsu Club since 2004, has been devoted to Ju-Jitsu since February 1996 and has earned a fourth Dan black belt.

His martial arts journey commenced at The Budokan Ju-Jitsu School with Master Mick Walsh, whose swift, precise, and highly effective teaching style greatly influenced him.

Dave trained rigorously with Master Walsh, with Sensei William Garnett as his training partner.

In 2023, he received his Yondan (4th Dan), perpetuating the techniques and philosophy imparted by Master Walsh.

Dave's zeal for teaching shines through his dynamic approach and the individualized attention he bestows upon each student, fostering their growth in confidence and skill.

His dedication to excellence is mirrored in his pioneering teaching methods and his MAIUK Level 1 - Martial Arts Instructor UK Coaching qualification.

His proficiency was officially acknowledged when he was bestowed the esteemed title of Tashi by Soke Brian Walsh in November 2019, signifying his status as an expert instructor.

Additionally, Dave serves as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the club, guaranteeing a secure and nurturing environment for all participants.

Shihan Paul Ellis - Rokudan 6th Dan

Shihan Paul is an essential figure at the club, serving as Dave's trusted deputy and playing a key role in instruction.

His expertise in Ju-Jitsu is the result of over forty years of dedicated practice.

Paul's martial arts journey commenced at the age of twelve in Hale Village Hall. As a teenager, he became a member of the Lowlands Ju-Jitsu Club in Liverpool, under the leadership of Soke James Blundell, a protégé of Professor Jack Britten.

Over three decades at the Lowlands, Paul attained his 5th Dan.

He was bestowed the title of Shihan by Soke Brian Walsh and was awarded his 6th Dan by Soke Walsh in 2021.

Paul's pursuit of martial arts excellence has taken him around the world, teaching and learning from premier instructors.

Notably, in the early eighties, he sought additional training with Master Mick Walsh at the Southgate club, coinciding with Grand Master Chew Choo Soot's visit.

Remarkably, Paul's martial arts odyssey, which began in Hale Village, came full circle thirty years later when he returned to train with an individual linked to Professor Jack Britten.

Paul is a treasured asset to our coaching team, and we are privileged to have him.

He adheres to Tashi Dave's guidance, honoring the fact that it is Dave's establishment.

Paul is certified with a MAIUK Level 1 - Martial Arts Instructor UK Coaching qualification.
